The Crown CC Watermarks and the perforation 14 were used for all values. The Straits Settlements consisted of the four territories (Negeri-Negeri Selat); Malacca (Melaka), Dinding (Perak), Penang (Pulau Pinang) and Singapore.

Due to shortage in certain values from 1879 until 1882, the various surcharges were introduced until new issuance in January 1882. However, surcharge such as 5 Cents on 8c and 7 Cents on 32c denominations in 1879 was issued due to new resolution after joining the Universal Postal Union in 1877.
