EXPLORATION OF SCANDINAVIAN STAMPS

Studies on Swedish classic stamps are really complex and difficulty especially on 1858 issues. Numerous forgeries stamps were almost similar colour to those of the genuine, except 9 ore. The famous forgeries stamps were attributed which so-called like “Paris” Forgeries, “Sperati” Forgeries, “Tretio” Forgeries and faked “Steinberg” cover, according to Swedish Philately.

The genuine stamps were printed by using typography technique in comparison to forgery stamps were produced by photography transfers of the genuine stamp and after being retouched these photographs.

In term of paper qualities, the forgery stamps were used handmade & ribbed paper and could be easily identified by the colour of greyish. The gum has vertical and horizontal lines. Irregular line perforation and varying in size.

There were also reprints issued in 1865, 1871 & 1885, perforation of 13. Reprints of 1865 was printed on rough paper, 1871 on thin shiny paper and 1885 on shiny paper.

The Value of Error Stamps

Error stamps could be detected either through out visual inspection or use tools like a magnifying glass or scanner, indeed. In philately, a famous terminology prior to classify of the error stamps is so-called EFO – Errors, Freaks and Oddities, a term referring to all kinds of things that goes wrong when producing stamps. It's encompasses the whole major designs of error stamps and printing with poor quality or mistake. Stamps that have major uncertainty in comparison with the acceptance quality could be considered as errors, it's caused during printing process which do not show the intended appearance of the desired design or having abnormality.

Major Errors that something would be seen easily or clearly without referring to the acceptance quality or display strange features in comparison with the catalogues. The classic examples were missing denominations, centre inverted, colour shades, centring offset, double impression, mis-perforation and others. Used stamps with major errors could be valuables and rare.

Something apparently stranger things at the reverse of the stamps like unusual watermarked, inverted watermarks and others, all these would be considered as a hidden error.

Freak is something about faulty during printing process caused by mechanical or human errors. Freak includes paper folds, albino-complete absence of colour, colour shifts – stamp sheets are misaligned within colour application, inking problem, offsets – inking intended to one stamp sheet was deposited to another sheet of stamps, fold overs – corners of a sheet wad folded over or under and unprinted areas.
