The Dutch East Indies was Dutch Colony that became modern Indonesia following World War II. It was formed from the nationalised colonies of the Dutch East India Company, which came under the administration of the Dutch government in 1800.

The numeral cancels were introduced in Ned Indies region on 1st. January 1874 and were officially withdrawn on 1st. April 1893. The numbers from 1 to 120 are known by 131 different post office.

The William III stamps were printed by Joh. Enschede and Sons of Harlem in 1870. Total 12 different face values were issued with various paper type, colour shades and perforation. There were 2 types of perforation consists of large holes and small holes.

Few issues were notable plate flaws exist. For example, the plate flaw of the broken C was found on 12 1/2 cent.
