Spirit of Graf Zeppelin, A Mankind's History in Aviation


 
                                

Overview

Ferdinand von Zeppelin (1838-1917) who was count (Graf) in the German nobility and the German pioneer of airships. He was also as an engineer, German officer and founder of the Zeppelin airship company.

The first vessel name was LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin (Deutsches Luftschiff Zeppelin #127), a German-built and operated, passenger-carrying, hydrogen - filled, rigid airship which operated commercially from 1928 to 1937.

The first intercontinental flight was on October 1928, the Graf Zeppelin made its trip around 9,926km, 111 hour crossing from Friedrichshafen, Germany to Lakehurst, United States.


The Europe-Pan American Flight (1930)

In May, 1930 the LZ 127 made its first visit to South America as part of a triangular flight between Spain, Brazil and United States. A special stamps was issued by Spain, Brazil and United States.

One of the famous Graf Zeppelin stamps was issued in United States on April 24, 1930, and nowadays having a high value i.e. 65 cents – CV US$180, US$1.30 – CV US$400 and $2.60 – CV US$575.

Century of Progress Flight (1933)

After Century of Progress Flight in 1933, a few countries were issued their special airmail stamps to commemorate the history of aviation. Below are few samples of Graf Zeppelin stamps had been issued with numerous denomination values and some having higher catalogue values.
