French Colonies – French Guiana Postages
1859~1950
French Colonies The first stamp of the French Colonies was issued in 1859, depicting an eagle and crown in a round frame, imperforates with inscription “COLONIES DE L’EMPIRE FRANCAIS”. There were six face values comprised of 1c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 40c and 80c. French Guiana on the north east coast of South America, an overseas territory of France. It was first settled in South America by the French in 1604.

1940 French Guiana Stamp River 30c, 40c, 45c & 50c, perforates, 4 margins, MNH Inini Postage Inini was an inland territory of French Guiana, separate administration from July 1930 to March 1946 and capital was Saint Elie. Whereas on the coastal area, the capital was Cayenne. During this period, the French Guiana postages were overprinted with numerous variations on “TERRITOIRE DE L’ININI”.
