The first postage and
revenue stamps of Johore was issued in 1904. Subsequently, the first $500 (Malaya
dollars) stamp of Johore was issued in 1926. Johore was only the Malay states issued
a stamp denomination of $500 instead of Straits Settlements. Indeed, Johore was only remained outside the Federated Malay States until 16 September, 1963.
The estimated value
of the $500 is more than 20 times in comparison with denomination, most valuable stamp. The market price is predominantly governed by sentimental
values itselve.
“In many cases, the
value of the stamps are not merely based on denomination but sentimental values influencing the present values of the stamps.” - Myla Philately
For instant, they are few clarification such as firstly, why should $500 stamp of Johore being issued? Secondly, what is the significant factors to
issue $500 stamp? Thirdly, is it affordable to the local citizen for Johorean?
Throughout
philatelic, we could find the reason. This magnificent stamp shows that the rapid growth of Johore's economic at that time, which was managed by the excellent states government of Johore, indeed. An intellectual and “Open Minded” in administrative
of the states government was one of the key factor to the gloray of Johore, where Johor Bahru is capital city of Johore, as well as one of the largest city in Malaysia nowadays.
According to The
Singapore Free Press and Mercantile Advertisement dated 26
August, 1927, revealing the urgency to issue $500 stamp. In
1926, the revenue of Johore states was increases dramatically up-to 18% as
compared to 1925. The rapid growth of Johore’s economics sector had contributed
higher revenue. The continuous investment by Crown Agent made the Johore development
in healthy and prosperous as a Southern Gateway of Asia.
The Johore states

of Johore’s revenue is mainly accounted by increased receipts under the main
heads of Customs, Licensed, Municipal, Land Sales and Posts & Telegraphs.

canning production. The number of foreign labourers employed was Indian:
31,272, Chinese: 19,006, Javanese: 6,248; Others: 1,121, and at last but not
least thereof, some of them became a permanent residence or obtaining citizenship
of Johore.
Tracking the historical
thumbprints, due to huge investments & increase on land acquisitions, the
issuance of $500 Postage and Revenue stamp is deemed necessary, We may discover
that the $500 dollar postage and revenue stamps were fiscally used for land
acquisitions & taxations and scarcely being used for postage mainly for
package airmails such as parcels services to homelands by tin ore workers e.g
China.
